Luc Maertens has more than 25 years of experience in strategy development and operational excellence in the Agri-Food Industry. He has managed operations, resources and competences from research phase, over development and regulatory approval, to commercialisation. He has integrated ESG performance indicators for sustainable business growth, and to reduce the eco footprint of the food supply chain. He built up a network for regulatory advocacy to support effective assessments of new actives. With the team he transitioned AgroSavfe into the Research, Development and Commercial Organisation Biotalys as CEO and since 2019 as COO. Before joining Biotalys in 2017, he was Head of Syngenta’s Ghent Innovation Center, and leading Syngenta’s Global RNA-based Biocontrol R&D Platform. Before that, he held a number of Science, Regulatory Affairs and operational positions in Crop Protection, Seeds and Biotechnology at Devgen NV, for Europe, Africa and Asia, and was part of the Devgen management. He started his career in the laboratory of the VIB Department for Medical Protein Research of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ghent.
