By implementing controls so you never have to do a big cleanup again A little bit about how I ended up here: I started my full-time career at AWS as a Solutions Architect, helping customers use AWS more effectively. One of the first conversations I had was with a small software company that was spending about $10k a month on cloud. Their business was going through a rough time so they wanted to cut costs and asked if I could help. After looking at their bill, I saw that about 30% ($3k) was going to data transfer. Seemed a little suspicious so I decided to investigate further. What I found shocked me: they just put a storage bucket in the wrong region. 1 simple misconfiguration. $3k/month. Wasted. As I saw more and more environments, I started seeing patterns. There was something to be optimized in every single cloud account I saw. Over the 2 years I worked at AWS, I optimized dozen cloud environments, combined saving over a million dollars in yearly cloud consumption. Then I started at Wiz and noticed the same thing. It's just that the unnecessarily high cloud bills got replaced by unnecessarily high security risks.
