Hi, I'm Betsy Helmuth, an interior designer and founder of Uploft Interior Design, a family of brands that includes Affordable, Modern, and Office Interior Design. The author of a bestselling DIY design book, BIG DESIGN, SMALL BUDGET, published in hardcover by Skyhorse Publishing and released in paperback under the title AFFORDABLE INTERIOR DESIGN, I'm currently shopping my most recently completed manuscript, a humor memoir chronicling my design misadventures. In my nineteen years as a business owner, I've worked with over a thousand clients, including high-profile political figures on both sides of the aisle, a billionaire business mogul, an HGTV exec, a controversial media pundit, a disgraced political wife, a three-hit-wonder musician, a bawdy comedian, a 90s character actor, and hundreds of neurotic/fabulous/normal New Yorkers. My 7-figure firm—run by 10 powerhouse women—transforms spaces in NYC, Washington, DC. I've also designed in India, England, Argentina, Germany, and beyond! My television appearances include the Today Show, Lifetime TV, CBS News, MSNBC, CNN, a pilot for HGTV, and a recurring role on the DIY Network. My design work has been covered by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NYPost, USA Today, Small Room Decorating Magazine, Westchester Magazine, Curbed, amNY, Apartmentality, MetroNY, and The Huffington Post. I've been on the airwaves for 9 years, recording my top-rated, weekly podcast, Affordable Interior Design, which House Beautiful named a “Design Podcast You Should Be Listening To." I've been a guest on numerous podcasts, including EOFire, Open for Business, Entrepreneur Decoded, Busy Creator, Chaise Lounge, Decorating Tips and Tricks, Growing Joy, and Keith and the Girl Comedy Podcast, where listeners crowned me the “Saddest Moment” Award Winner for 2022. I'm the wife of a comedy-writer husband (to whom I got engaged after a mere 10 weeks of dating), and the proud mother of three children, aged 13, 11, and…7-months-old. (Whoops.) I'm also the doting caregiver to two elderly pets: a chihuahua (rescued from an Alabama dirt road) and a cat (rescued from a Bronx alley.) My brood and I make our home in Connecticut in a turn-of-the-century, Italian-inspired villa built by Princess Diana’s uncle. (Yes, you read that right.)
