As an expert Geriatrician leading and providing education and support for families and professionals, I founded ElderConsult Geriatric Medicine, a house-call practice in 2005. This practice has evolved into Dr Liz Geriatrics, an online community, education, and support service, as well as a telemedicine practice. I have been board certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and palliative care medicine and have served as assistant professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and as a consultant for the San Francisco Elder Abuse Forensics Center. Through my house-call practice, I have helped thousands of elders. As an expert in managing dementia agitation without sedation, I have kept many of those patients, deemed “unplaceable”, from eviction or languishing in the hospital. I'm now distilling knowledge and more practical tips through Dr Liz Geriatrics. My team and I provide direct advice and support to individual families along with educating healthcare workers, lawyers, guardians, and others who work professionally with elders. Both families and professionals are welcome to be part of the Dr Liz Geriatrics community to discuss top-of-mind topics and current issues affecting geriatric and dementia care. Dr Liz Geriatrics’ members will be informed through newsletters, podcasts, and Ask the Doc on Dr Liz Geriatrics Facebook. We also offer a monthly support group facilitated by a social worker. It takes a community of dedicated caregivers, professionals, and non-professionals, to achieve our vision – keeping our elders strong, healthy, independent, and connected with the community.
