I am a small business owner and entrepreneur having started multiple successful businesses over the past 25 years including Girly Chic Boutique, The Flying Cupcake, The Dancing Donut, and The Lemon Bar. The Flying Cupcake, LLC (opened in 2007) was the very first cupcake bakery in Indiana, opening years before the big cupcake craze even began. Since opening, my company has sold over 7.000.000 cupcakes and grown to include as many as 6 area locations, 1 full service restaurant, 1 donut shop, two full service cupcake food trucks, and national shipping. The Flying Cupcake has been voted as “Indy’s Best Cupcakes” every year since opening by the Indy Star, Indy A-List, and Indianapolis Monthly. The Flying Cupcake was featured on CNN and MSN.com and in USAToday, Martha Stewart Living, Midwest Living, & Paula Deen Magazine. Globally, The Flying Cupcake is proudly included in Buzzfeed.com’s “25 Sweet Cupcake Shops Around the World to Eat at Before You Die”. Past and current clients and customers include The Indianapolis Colts, Nordstrom, Crate and Barrel, Indiana University Health, John Mellencamp, Snoop Dogg, Anthropoligie, Rascal Flatts, DirecTv, Macy’s, SalesForce, Hancock Community Hospital, many more. As the owner, I develop and manage all aspects of The Flying Cupcake including day to day operations, marketing and sales, planning and strategy, customer service, online sales and operations, logistics, hiring and Human Resources, finance and accounting, legal considerations including lease negotiations, product development and research, quality control, creative direction, and compliance with local health code. My favorite part of being a small business owner is being able to control the creative direction of the company and products while also establishing lasting relationships with customers and my team/ staff.
