Working as a physician for more than 25 years has provided me with a high level of respect for the healthcare system and the patients I was privileged to serve. I began my career in academia and then moved to clinical medicine as a Pulmonary Specialist, Critical Care Specialist, Medical Director of Home Health and Hospice agencies, Medical Director of an LTACH, and Medical Director of rehab and skilled nursing facilities. These experiences gave me a broad understanding of the healthcare challenges confronting physicians and patients in a variety of healthcare and community-based settings. My passion was next directed to contributing my knowledge and experiences to enhance healthcare for seniors who reside in the post-acute care and senior housing settings. I chose this growing demographic because of the crucial role seniors play in the future of our healthcare system. To this end, I developed a House Calls service, a Health Analytics service, and an instructional service to reduce avoidable hospital readmissions with the primary focus being assisted living. My overall goal has been to develop innovative, data-driven solutions to optimize post-acute senior health. More recently I’ve returned to my hospital roots and now serve in the role of Medical Director and Physician Advisor. To add strength to my qualifications for this unique position, I’ve become certified in Health Care Quality and Management by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. In this role, I take advantage of my years of clinical service and strive to unite the interests of the hospital with those of its healthcare providers with an emphasis on common clinical, financial, and outcomes goals. Achieving results in this very complex healthcare system requires partnering with stakeholders throughout the healthcare continuum.
