William Young

With over a decade in community service, my law enforcement journey, starting at the Madison County Sheriff's Department (Anderson, Indiana), led me to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, where I currently serve as Executive Officer to the Chief of Police, Sergeant, and Public Information Officer. My expertise in family services and grief counseling, honed at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Herb Walker Funeral Homes (Cincinnati, Ohio), empowers me to handle sensitive community interactions with empathy. At IMPD, our team is dedicated to transparency, fostering trust between law enforcement and the community we serve. Upholding the values of integrity and compassion, I am committed to enhancing public relations and contributing to a culture of inclusivity and understanding within the organization. I am a native of Anderson, Indiana. I graduated and earned an Associate of Applied Science in Mortuary Science from Vincennes University School of Funeral Service, Embalming, & Mortuary Science in 2005, in 2009 from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science in Management, and from the historically black university Delaware State University with a Master’s in Public Affairs/Administration. I am the past president and chairman of the board of the Indiana Select Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, member of the Buckeye State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, National Black Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Marion County Funeral Directors Association, Academy of Professional Funeral Practice (CFSP), Indianapolis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Incorporated, American Legion Post#249 (Sons of the Legion), the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Greater Indiana Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives where I serve as Parliamentarian, Peerless Lodge #32 Free & Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite, and El Zora #124 of the Mystic Shrine. In my free time, William enjoys spending time with family, church, traveling, and golfing.
